Things are happening for Andreina and I am incredibly proud of her!
She has already sold numerous pieces through her online shop: read the feedback from some of the folks that have bought from her.
Next Thursday, Sept. 6 at 9 pm, she will be showing 10 of her works at Dandelion Communitea Cafe, following the monthly First Thursdays activities at the Orlando Museum of Art.
Please join us (directions to the cafe) and help us spread the word about it!
We passed the 800 member level today in TuDiabetes.com!!!
This is the third time it happens: I won in Blingo AGAIN!! (sorry, Mat!)
Today I won (humbly) a $5 Amazon.com Gift Certificate, but I could have opted for a Fandango movie ticket (I just don’t go to the movies as much).
The way Blingo works is (refresher): you do your searches (they are powered by Google) using Blingo, while logged in with your account, and you can win. When you win, whoever referred you to Blingo wins too: this is what happened to me today (again) thanks to Gilberto!
So, join me in Blingo so we all can win.
Granted that it’s not free, but when/if you grow your web site enough and you have a story you feel would be relevant to people beyond yourself, close friends and relatives, if you want to attract media attention, press releases are a great way to go.
We recently posted our first press release:
on two different PR platforms: PRWeb and PRLeap.
PRWeb was pricier ($80 per release, the cheapest option) and has gotten us a little more mileage (it made it to the first page of Google results, spot #3, when you search for “tudiabetes”). The user interface was a little clunkier, but their support is super-fast, plus your items get checked (and if OK, approved) real fast.
PRLeap was less expensive ($60 per release, which included a bunch of cool things, including #2 spot on their home page, at least for today). The user interface was a little clearer though their documentation could use a little clarification and their approval process takes a bit longer (hours as opposed to PRWeb’s minutes).
You get what you pay for, indeed.
I will be sharing additional tips and learnings in the coming weeks as I see them working (or not). I am learning as I go about the great big world of public relations.
On a side note:
Any media people around that would be interested in covering us?
I just ran into a very nice list in Time.com, showing their 50 Best Websites 2007. You get to rank them to see which ones are winners. My top choices:
-StumbleUpon: a website discovery tool and community I’ve been addicted to for a few weeks now (I’ve actually stopped using del.icio.us as much!)
-Etsy: handcrafts for sale, allows artists like Andreina to sell their works… without taking out an arm and a leg in commission.
-Twitter: well you know how much I love Twitter!
New sites I found out about through the list:
-Blinkx: a very nice video-search engine that dips into TV content.
-Tumbler: another blogging platform.
Last, even if you consider yourself web-savvy, also check out Time’s list of 25 Sites We Can’t Live Without: I found a couple that I didn’t know about (Kayak, for cheap travel fares, for instance)
Does anybody have experience with the Flip Video Camcorder? Another person recommended it to me and I just learned about it. Seems like a nice gadget, but I am not sure about it: the FIXED storage thing doesn’t excite me too much, but…
I was VERY happy to see this piece of news in today’s Twitter Newsletter:
“It’s new feature season and we’re starting with People Search.
This new Twitter feature is great for finding more people to follow because it searches profile information such as name, location, bio, and url. Come on by and find out if your friends are already Twittering and you just didn’t know it! The search field is on the right side of Twitter when you sign in.”
