Venezuelan Zinga Son
Ha pasado un tiempo desde que escuchamos el trabajo anterior de la banda, pero finalmente regresaron de su “silencio” musical, con un sonido un poco mas evolucionado que el de ‘Arepa 3000′. Combinando influencias de salsa brava, el mas delicioso bossa nova y deep house, y cantando en ingles en mas de un tema, los Amigos presentan este, su cuarto album (Venezuelan Zinga son) en un momento en que Venezuela -la tierra que los vio nacer- y el mundo necesitan mucho de su excelente groove y buen humor musical. Muy probablemente en unas semanas el album este disponible a un precio mas razonable, asi que no se apresuren a comprarlo de una vez, pero no lo pierdan de vista tampoco!!

It’s been some three years since we heard the previous work of the band, but they are finally back, out of their “musical silence” with a more mature and evolved sound than the one they had in ‘Arepa 3000′. Combining influences of Fania-based Salsa, bossa nova (Jobim) and deep house, and singing several songs in English (not surprising considering how much time they spend in NYC lately) the Amigos present their fourth work (Venezuelan Zinga son) in a moment that Venezuela -their homeland- and the world at large very much need their excellent groove and good musical humor. Most likely, the album will come down in price in the upcoming weeks, as it is released everywhere, so don’t rush to get it, but don’t forget to put it on your Wish List so you can keep an eye on it!!

The Revolution will not be Televised es el nombre de una pelicula que el gobierno esta exhibiendo en festivales a lo largo y ancho del planeta, ofreciendo una vision cesgada de los acontecimientos del 11 de Abril de 2002… a costa de los propios venezolanos. Realmente inaudito!

Chávez comete error ortográfico en clase de alfabetización
El presidente Hugo Chávez sorprendi? el lunes a los venezolanos cuando en medio de una clase de alfabetizaci?n escribió una palabra con un error ortográfico durante una cadena de radio y televisión. Chávez escribió en la pizarra la palabra “adquerir”, la cual corrigió quince minutos después y sólo cuando constató en el diccionario que el verbo correcto era “adquirir”.
Music wants to be free. Personally I doubt this type of initiatives described here will reach a wide audience like Napster, Morpheus and KaZaA did, but the history has not been written yet…

The Man In Black
As a diabetic, a fan of music and having “discovered” his music not too long ago, I feel sad for the departure of The Man in Black on September 12, 2003, due to diabetes complications. My first exposure to him was by means of the triple “Essential Johnny Cash 1955-83“, one which I’d recommend far more than any other compilations of his works, if you want to go deeper into the man’s roots.
Afterward, I listened to American IV, the most recent installment (and last one) of his efforts to interpret great songs by artists he respected. I almost feel bad to acknowledge it today, but I did write back when I first heard that album that it had the inevitable dark feeling of being a last one for him. Today I know that to be true.
God bless you, Johnny Cash! You were already immortal before you died…

A box set of unreleased American Records recordings is due out soon. Also check out june’s latest and unfortunately last album. Also check out “I see a darkness” by Will Oldham, a song that cash covered because it reflected a lot of his struggle the last five years of his life. I also recommend reading his auto biography and “The Solitary Man”, both provide great insight into his amazing life.
